A few days ago I posted a brief discussion of what India under the domination of Hindu nationalism looks like because of the continued rise of Christian nationalism in the United States. Yesterday, in a related story in the New York Times, we learn that without explanation the Indian government denied renewing the license of the Roman Catholic religious congregation, the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa <NY Times: link>. The license is needed for the charity to receive donations from international sources, and international funding is a major source of support for the Missionaries of Charity.
This comes at the same time that religious violence against religious minorities continues to rise.
Of course, the analogy with the United States is not perfect. But I do find it chilling.
