I start to feel better and then something like this comes along and I’m tears again.
You’re right, Richard, that she was as close to a mother as we had left as a nation, and now she’s gone and we’re a long way from home. Still, we cannot give up; even if her lifetime of work is eclipsed by the effrontery of a ramrodded new justice. An eclipse, after all, is brief: the light remains.
It seems odd to feel so much sadness for someone I’ve never met. But her determination and commitment are awesome models for what we can be in this Saha world.
