Candy Gunther Brown (Religious Studies, Indiana University) contributed to the panel on “Buddhism, Capitalism and Consumer Culture,” Buddhism in the West Group, American Academy of Religion meeting, 2014/San Diego. She is also scheduled to be a presentor at this year’s meeting in Atlanta, as a member of the seminar on “Economics and Capitalism in the Study of Buddhism.”
Continuing from her work on complementary and alternative medicine (The Healing Gods: Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Christian America, Oxford, 2013) Dr. Brown has initiated a research program on the Mindfulness movement. She has posted parts of this research in her blog on Huffington Post. These are well worth reading. See:

She has also looked at the significance of similar rhetorics of secularization of religious practice in relation to yoga.
