Buddhism or Buddhisms? Rhetorical Consequences of Geo-Political Categories
In connection with my role as Editor in Chief for the Oxford Bibliographies/Buddhism section, I was recently invited to post on the Oxford University Press blog site.
In the first of a linked pair of posts, I examine the rhetorical consequences of dividing the field of Buddhist studies along geo-political boundaries. A follow up post on the lexical consequences of talking about Buddhism in the singular, rather than Buddhisms in the plural will be posted next week.
In the future, I intend to revise these two posts, combining and expanding them, and making the resulting essay available here.
